CALL FOR 2019 PRESENTERS

Proposal Deadline: 11:59 p.m. (PST) on Friday, November 30, 2018

The Institute is proud to invite program proposals for the 2019 ABCD Institute. We invite you to be a part of this annual event that is designed to promote Inclusive Excellence on campus, in the workplace, in your community, and beyond.

About the ABCD Institute 2019

The ABCD Institute is an annual, one-day event combining academic presentations, educational workshops, exhibits, networking, and other membership events. Taking place each spring, the Institute will welcome up to 300 attendees from across the state, reputed speakers and presenters, exhibitors, sponsors, and guests. The date of the Institute will be announced in November 2018.

Proposal Guidelines

To participate in the program, please submit a presentation proposal that is supportive of the mission of the ABCD Institute. The Institute is committed to promoting issues centered around diversity; therefore, presenters are required to explain, as part of their proposal, how their presentation/workshop addresses and/or integrates diversity issues into the topic.

We are currently accepting four different types of submissions for the conference. Please review the detailed descriptions of each type before proceeding to complete the form.

If you have any questions, please contact the Institute Director, Kayoung Kim at kayoung.kim@uwc.edu.

1. Individual Symposium

Individual Symposium is a 45-minute, academic presentation that is based on scientific research. Researchers with a scientific presentation on any topic related to diversity issues may propose an individual paper. Submissions should include a 150-word biography with a brief summary of the presenter's education and work experience, a 200-word general abstract (excluding references). In the abstract, you are asked to include references to scholarly articles that support your research, as the Institute emphasizes rigorous, scientific, and evidence-based research. If an abstract is not accepted for presentation, it is automatically reviewed for poster presentation.

2. Workshops

Workshops are 45-minute, dynamic and interactive sessions that are more practice-based. Individuals interested in leading a skill-based training session, experience-based talk, and/or interactive meeting on any topic related to diversity issues may propose their workshop ideas. Workshop submissions should include a 150-word biography of the workshop leader(s), a 200-word abstract, and an indication of the general topic to assist the Institute members in choosing an appropriately diverse set of topics.

3. Research Posters

Poster submissions should include a 150-word biography with a brief summary of the presenter's education and work experience, and a 200-word abstract (excluding references) on their research project. Poster titles should be descriptive and, when possible, indicate the important result, rather than the experimental question or topic area. Submissions presenting research should be formatted to include the following elements: Background, Methods, Results and Conclusion.

4. Diversity Exhibit

We invite submissions from cultural groups, performers and artists, who are interested in participating in our Plenary Diversity Exhibit. This could be a series of artwork, photo exhibits, awareness posters, cultural items, and others. Submissions should include a 150-word biography of the exhibit participant(s), a 200-word abstract that describes the content and the significance of their exhibit, and an indication of the general topic to assist the Institute members in choosing an appropriately diverse set of topics.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. (PST). You will be informed of the committee's decision in December 2018; presenting authors/leaders will be notified of the schedule of the program in February 2019. Scheduling changes can be made by the presenters, and must be requested by March 1st, 2019 to ensure they appear in the printed program.
